I’m trying to embrace the dog days of summer, as I know the warmth will soon leave us and I’ll have a harder time getting around, as December draws near.

But the down time of this summer, brought on by many changes that have occurred in the past 6 months, has been a struggle for me. Not being excessively busy and scheduled has left me feeling weirdly empty — something that is really silly and that I need to get over — but nonetheless, it’s true.

I know most women my age are complaining about how busy they are all the time. Some days, I wish I had that complaint! I know I will have that soon with baby coming, but the waiting period has been hard on my psyche for some reason. When I’m not busy, I feel kind of worthless — like what am I doing with my life right now? Yes, it’s short lived but still, 2015 has been the longest year of my life.

Perhaps this is my time to learn to embrace things as they are, to be at peace with the simple, the quiet, the down time. It’s a difficult lesson for me to learn but I know I’m going to look back on this time with envy in the future. I don’t feel like I ever see anyone writing that they feel this way so…I figured I would just be honest. It has led me to deal with some really pathetic jealousy issues of others — and made my heart feel yucky.

I’m working on banishing the discontentment and letting go of my jealousy . When I write it down, it sounds so stupid and yes, first world problems. I always feel the need to make that disclaimer…though I wonder, do we have to qualify our issues by acknowledging they are petty? I’m not sure. I don’t want anyone to think I don’t know that…anyway, it’s just a season of life and it will soon be another.

The Weekend

So I’m always looking for fun stuff to do in the area. Living near DC, there usually is something going on. I found the Comcast Outdoor Film Festival in Maryland on Saturday and was excited to see they were playing “Interstellar.” I had seen it once before but it’s kind of complicated so I wanted to see it again. It was a perfect night for it — clear sky, great weather, good bunch of people! I had a sno-cone, a hot dog and a waffle cone of Ben & Jerry’s — super healthy 🙂 We didn’t get home till midnight — haven’t see that hour outside the house in forever!

Earlier in the day, we were out for another hike. I enjoy getting away from where we live and going to the woods. It’s refreshing and you always run into friendly people and animals. We headed to a trail about 25 minutes away and hiked for about an hour and a half.

As usual, we went to the movies. This time, we saw “Ricki and the Flash,” the new movie with Meryl Streep (and her daughter), written by Diablo Cody. It was a pretty good movie, Meryl fabulous as always! We said it was a redemption story and that’s why we liked it so much. I almost made it without a tear!

Breakfast

Sunday mornings we like to go out for breakfast — most of the time it’s IHOP across the street or Dunkin Donuts. Luckily, IHOP has some healthy options. I got a veggie omelette with hash browns and felt pretty good about it. Then it was off to the grocery store, where I bought lots of veggies and promised myself I will eat lots of them this week! I’ve been so bad about the veggies lately…

Yoga

This afternoon, I went to prenatal yoga at Refresh Yoga Center in Old Town. It’s kind of fun getting together with other pregnant ladies. They usually do introductions and you can see how far along everyone is. Compared to the girl who was about one week ahead of me, I’m tiny! It’s amazing how different everyone’s body is in adapting to pregnancy. I wonder if doing yoga only once a week is going to make much of a difference in labor/delivery…guess we’ll find out.

Evening

I can’t stand being inside when the weather is nice so I sat outside on the grass on a blanket reading and hanging out with myself for a couple of hours. Gotta say it’s getting harder and harder to get comfortable no matter where I sit!

We have been using our new little grill on the back porch and I’m obsessed so we had BBQ chicken, veggie kabobs & roasted potatoes for dinner. I can’t say I helped much so thankful Rick is up for manning the grill 🙂

Guessing I will almost finish out my binge-watching of “Rectify” next — anyone seen it? I’m loving that show and sad it will soon be over! That’s the problem with binge-watching, it goes so fast!
