oldrag6“Thank you LÄRABAR for sponsoring today’s post and helping me to get outside!”

Hi everyone! Yes, I DID run the Marine Corps Marathon yesterday — and a recap will be coming tomorrow. Promise! In the meantime, feel free to check out a couple of photos I posted on Instagram!

Until last year, I didn’t really think much about hiking or trails. I had always been one for city walking or running — trails were a bit foreign.

But things have changed, as you can see above. I’ve begun to LOVE the trails and realized how much more of a rich experience you can get from hiking and running on trails. Just two weeks ago, I ran a trail half-marathon and had a blast!

I really discovered how much I love it, though, when I went to Sedona, Arizona recently. Sedona is literally the most gorgeous place you can go hiking in maybe the world. There are a million trails — easy and hard — and for those who are prone to getting lost (me!), you have to prepared with food and water. Maybe for 2 days — who knows?! Not really but you know…!

What makes trail running and hiking different? Scenery for one — but another big factor is time. You don’t go out for a 30-minute hike. You got out for half a day or more. That means going prepared with plenty of water (thank you Camelbak!) and food.

One of my favorites to bring for energy is LÄRABAR. It’s not just about calories — it’s the quality of the calories. Nice to have them taste good too!

I discovered LÄRABAR several years ago, as I got associated with the fitness community online and realized how much people liked them. They’ve become a staple for me because they never ever ever upset my stomach. I can be sensitive and that’s the last thing you want to deal with on a long hike or run.

LÄRABAR are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan. I’m not sure how it’s possible to make something so delicious without including these things but it can be done! I was so glad to receive a stash of refills last week, including the new RENOLA granola.

Rick and I took a little hike on the trails near our house this weekend and I, of course, stocked up with some of these snacks.

I don’t know about you but ending up hungry on a hike is one of my worst fears — seriously. I have visions of 127 hours and being lost without food. With me, anything could happen. A compass would do be not good. Honestly, it might as well be a block of wood.

So…I always have lots of extra — just in case 🙂 The RENOLA granola was really good — and a great amount for a quick snack. My favorite was the cinnamon flavored (looooove cinnamon!)
