Are we becoming boring old people? We went to a nursery this weekend — something I always associated as “boring” as a kid but I actually kind of liked it! Rick really likes growing stuff on our deck and I admit, I’m intrigued by the idea of growing our own food. It makes me really regret that I didn’t appreciate the huge vegetable garden my mom had when I was a kid!

I actually just bought him this book — called “The Edible Garden” about gardening in small, city-like spaces. Man, I’ll be glad when someday I have a yard.

For now, some oversized pots, water and a little willfullness is all we got.

So far, the greatest success has been growing these baby tomatoes — which we are waiting to ripen now. Strawberries only produced a couple and a few other things didn’t really pan out either. But it’s all an experiment. Here are the tomatoes:

What else did we get this weekend? Rick said when he was a kid he used to beg his mom for a Venus Fly Trap plant. So while we were at the counter, I said — you should get one! We bought and snapped a photo — and it’s so funny because a ton of people mentioned how their sons wanted one or they had wanted one as a kid! I only remember it from the movie, “Little Shop of Horrors” myself. It is kind of a freaky plant, I mean, it can eat meat!

We fed it a piece of chicken last night…still working on digestion. Creepy! I’m wondering how big they can get or…I don’t know, plants can be crazy “animals” apparently.

The Rest of the Weekend

Friday night, we watched “Spring Break” — resist the urge! It was horrible. Thought it might be funny to see James Franco all G’d out — NOT. And nobody wants to see Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens as sociopathic, college students.

Saturday, I was up for my running/rowing clinic at Crossfit. Much more on that to come tomorrow because I learned a ton and want to share it with you.

Saturday night, we went to see “The Heat” with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. It’s definitely unrealistic but funny. Sandra Bullock is classic (think “Miss Congeniality”) and Melissa McCarthy is just hilarious. I love her — and this was definitely funny.

We also went to our old standby, Outback Steakhouse, where I was sadly disappointed in my steak but supremely impressed by my mini-banana pudding milkshake. This thing was heaven in a glass!

Sunday, I went to visit Michelle and Austin! Austin is almost six weeks old now and super cute. I’ve taken him as my adopted nephew since my own nieces and nephews live so far away. If I stay in the area for a long time, I want Austin to know me well. I’m lucky to have such great friends.

Sunday night, I made this delicious Thyme Pork meal that I’ll be featuring later this week with recipe and photos!!

I also watched episode 3 of the new season of Dexter — oh man, can’t believe this is the last season, love that show!

How was your weekend? I want to hear about your races if you had any! Any awesome meals or movies? Do you garden? Tips??
