Two great friends who live one pricey plane ride away. What are two girls supposed to do?

Lindsay and I have been friends since we were 17 years old — and we’ve been through a lot of crap together. We’ve got some awesome memories too — road trips, parties, boys, bad decisions and great moments.

Lindsay, Kristin and I pre-prom 2000.

We had our college graduation party together and then promptly moved to Charleston, South Carolina from Indiana because we had nothing better to do and were ready for an adventure!

I only stayed in Charleston (one of the best cities EVER by the way!) for a year before heading off to DC for another great adventure (still goin on!) But distance hasn’t taken it’s toll on us.

I haven’t been able to keep myself from Charleston over the years and have visited every couple of years but…we needed something simpler this time. Solution? Pick a place half way in between both of our cities and meet up for a day/night.

Turns out, Raleigh, NC is smack dab in the middle of Charleston and DC (4 hours for both of us). And it was done! So we met up in Raleigh this weekend to explore a new city and do some much needed catching up.

We went in blind and figured we’d find something to do once we got there. Apparently, we stayed right on the NC State campus and I saw a lot of college students. I strolled down a main sidewalk and ran into some cute coffee shops and stores.

We spent most of our day talking and walking around Pullen Park. It was an adorable park/family area with a train, carousel, picnic areas, paddleboating and more. It was a gorgeous day, perfect weather and a great breeze.

Lynz and I had a lot to catch up on — the drama of life get out of control and before you know it, you haven’t talked in six months and you wonder how you missed so much.

Sufficient to say, we had plenty to talk about over the hours of the day and strolling around the lake, sipping lemonade and snapping photos was a good opportunity to do so.

There was the cutest little train rolling around this park but we didn’t end up getting on. So…I just got a pic by the railroad crossing.

I was testing out my new camera for the first time so I was kind of snapping all over the place. Already, I can tell  having this camera makes a difference and it might be my favorite birthday present ever. Can’t wait to see how my food pictures turn out from now on!

We started the evening at Napper Tandy’s — a cute Irish pub. I love sitting outside so we decided to have a couple of drinks on the patio while waiting for our 10pm dinner reservations at the 42nd Street Oyster Bar. It was Saturday night and we made reservations late so we just decided to take advantage of the time.

This bar was perfect because we were basically able to chat by ourselves and they were playing the most awesome summer songs — stuff like Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and that new Jason Mraz song I’m absolutely in love with.

And there’s these…which I guess sums up how I felt about a weekend with one of my best friends in the whole world 🙂 These are at our apartment in Charleston, where had lots of fun and spent a lot of time figuring out who we were and what we wanted.

I guess sometimes you wonder if you ever figure that stuff out. But I know that Lindsay and I will still be taking pictures together in 50 years…love you Lynz!
