I just watched my first live rescue of one of the trapped Chilean miners. What could have been a major tragedy — and has been so often in the past — was an occasion of joy. Watching one of the men’s wife’s face as she awaited his safe arrival above ground was sobering. As each man is lifted up, everyone knows he is not safe until he is actually above the ground. He was released from the rescue machine and rushed to the embrace of his wife. I can’t imagine how it must feel to finally be able to hold the one you love, when for so long you didn’t know if you ever would. Their joy was apparent in every movement and as the last miners are lifted out today, everyone should stop and have a moment to appreciate LIFE. Here’s a vid of the first few being rescued:
