Yoga excuses. It took me years to try yoga. YEARS. I was always the cardio girl, pounding out a million miles on the treadmill or spending a mind-numbing 45 minutes on the elliptical.
Well, a lot has changed since those boring, misguided fitness years. These days, yoga — in some way, shape or form — is part of my daily routine. It’s not about having the time, it’s about making the priority and it could mean minutes if that’s all you’ve got.
It’s also about comfort and convenience. Without those two things, let’s face — us ladies may never get to what we need to do.
- Comfort. You need the right clothes, temperature, setting, atmosphere and yes, protection necessary for that time of the month when it hits. Stayfree liners are the perfect solution
- Convenience. Can’t get to a class? The Internet is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? A My Yoga on Gaiam TV online subscription makes it SO easy to just fire up your laptop and go.
- Time. There are plenty of simple, morning or evening yoga sequences you can have on hand for when time is short. Just doing a few poses can make a difference.
- Assurance. One thing you can be assured of with yoga is that you are doing a body good. You are helping your spine, muscles and mind — no time wasters here.
After those many, many years without yoga in my life, I finally took the plunge and went to a class. I bent in ways I didn’t know I could, I activated muscles I didn’t know existed, I found relief in breathing patterns I’d never heard of. In short, yoga taught me about my body in fascinating and important new ways.
I don’t always have time to hit up an hour-long class at the gym, but I always have time to hit a few morning poses or turn on my computer for a class in my living room — and Gaiam TV is a great one to check out.
You know what else? Yoga is actually amazing for when you’re dealing with period problems. It takes your mind off your issues and helps your body function better. There’s no reason NOT to start making it a part of your daily life. What are you waiting for?
