Brooke Martin’s story captivated me after I saw it shared on social media months ago. She’s a local news anchor in Indianapolis, so many people are used to seeing Brooke’s face and hearing her cheerful voice on TV. Most of us were not prepared for the news she shared about her personal life, when she and her husband published a video talking about a fatal diagnosis for their unborn baby girl.

Viewers watched the initial video and then followed Brooke’s pregnancy journey, as she continued working on TV nearing her due date. As you’ll hear in today’s episode, she already knew baby Emma wouldn’t survive long past birth, if at all. So how did she do it? How did Brooke share her journey so publicly, continue working and become a symbol of strength for so many women facing infant loss?

“What’s happened to us — Emma Noelle — has  been my deliverance. She has taught me so much more than I could have ever learned without her.”

I was honored to speak with Brooke so candidly about her experience, what it was like getting the diagnosis, walking through pregnancy and how she relied on God’s strength to get her through each day. After baby Emma was born, Brooke held a Celebration of Life for her, and invited families in the community had experienced infant loss to join her there. The stories that came from that event were heartbreaking and healing at the same time.

This is a very hard thing to talk about, but Brooke’s beautiful spirit and her reliance on the Lord make it something worth hearing and sharing.
