Hey everyone — I write to you from a blizzard in New York City. Whaaaa? Yes, I’m here for work — my longest work trip away from Jacob ever — and now it looks like I may have to stay an extra day. I hope not but my flight tonight at 7:30pm is currently in limbo.

I was here from some email training and meetings but our office is actually closed today because of the snow. Luckily, I’m snuggled up here at my friend Heather’s apartment but shockingly, her office is NOT closed. It’s insane!

So what’s been up lately? Well, yesterday I did a little Facebook Live about getting workouts in while traveling, getting enough protein and being strong! I talked a bit about my partnership with Premier Protein and several people have actually followed up with me about it. I’m not kidding when I say I use it every single day. I will be hosting a give away soon but they are also sold at Wal-Mart!

Check it out here:

I’ve been talking on Instagram this week as well about how it’s tough to workout while traveling but always worth it. Check out some of those photos here.

Facebook Live Interviews

For those interesting in politics, I’ve started doing a Facebook Live interview series with folks as a part of my job at National Review. I don’t discuss politics here on the blog but I am conservative so they have that bent to them. You can check out one of my recent ones here and keep an eye on the NR FB page for more in the future.

Morning Chalk-Up
I meant to post this earlier but last week I had a debut piece on the new Morning Chalk-Up website! “Being a Mom Made Me a Better CrossFitter” may resonate with some of you. It’s not just CrossFit, but can apply to other areas in your life as well. Here’s an excerpt:

There was a confidence that came with this title of Mom. Before — I was just me, often wondering if I was good enough, smart enough, ambitious enough, strong enough. I’ve struggled with self-esteem my entire life. And I think that mental struggle was holding me back in the gym as well. But becoming a mom flipped a switch in my brain. It shouldn’t have been that way but it was.

All of the sudden, I was responsible for keeping this human being alive – and I would eventually be responsible for why he went to therapy in the future (as all mothers are) — it’s a lot of pressure! All of the sudden, I had to be strong enough, I had to be good enough because he was relying on me for everything, including my own body for food in the beginning. There was no space left to doubt myself — it was game time — and I was up for the challenge.

BRIGHT
I’m still a weekly editor on the BRIGHT newsletter. If you are new to it, it’s a daily email mix of culture, politics and entertainment aimed at women. We deliver fun write-ups about the top news of the day and hope to provide you with some new info and entertaining links you won’t find elsewhere. I really enjoy putting it together and we’ve gotten some great feedback! It is comparable to the Skimm in some ways but I think it really has it’s own personality. Sign up here!

I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein
My sister’s podcast is a passion project for me. While I don’t do the physical work for it, I support her in every way I can with ideas, promotion and more. If you haven’t subscribed yet, I encourage you to do so. It’s the perfect podcast to listen to while working out, making dinner, driving in the car or just passing the time. Most of the guests are accomplished athletes and the interviews are really more like conversations between friends you’d like to hang out with! Her most recent guest was Amelia Gapin, the first transgender runner on the cover of Women’s Running!

Search for it in iTunes and subscribe today. If you are a regular listener, I encourage you to leave a rating and review so we can move it up the charts.

Lastly, got to see this lady for dinner last night, which was awesome!

COMING UP
— More Facebook Live interviews for NR (Do you have a suggestions or rec? Let me know!) Next week I’m interviewing Michael Wear, who worked in the faith-based office of the Obama Administration and wrote the book, “Reclaming Hope.” I devoured it because it’s all about the intersection of faith and politics, something I struggle with!

— Trip to Charleston! Jacob and I will be heading to Charleston to visit Lindsay — you’ve seen me document past trips there but this will be Jacob’s first time on an airplane — and we couldn’t get a straight flight so…pray for me!

— I’ll be heading to DC for a work conference in March, looking forward to catching up with folks there!
