Hello everyone! Welcome to Monday, where you can regale your joys of the weekend instead of focusing on the task at hand. Monday IS rough, especially in the summer, but I still want to tell you about my weekend!

As you can see, I got myself into a kayak for the first time in four years. I’ve been talking about kayaking in Georgetown again since the one time I did it many moons ago. Well, I don’t know what took me so long because it was a blast, not to mention a killer arm workout.

We rowed out and back for a total of an hour and 20 minutes. Let me tell you, by the end of that, I was more than ready to get out of the boat! Next time, I will wear a bathing suit and NOT jean shorts, which were utterly soaked. I felt pretty good about that being my workout for the day, that’s for sure.

Sharing a double kayak, it only cost about $30 total for an hour and a half — not bad! You can really take it out as long as you want and they have SO many boats that even with a long line, you don’t really have to wait. Love how accessible it is — no experience necessary! Of course, parking in Georgetown sucks ($20 we paid!) but every so often, I guess it’s okay. We then went to lunch at Tony and Joe’s, sitting my the water and enjoying a beautiful day!

That wasn’t the only fun this weekend, though. Rick and I went out to Mt. Vernon, home of George Washington, on Saturday because he had never been there before. IT’s only about a 20-minute drive through some beautiful woodsy areas that gave me a craving for trail running!

It was pretty packed but luckily not too hot. We toured the home and enjoyed seeing all the original furnishings, preserved from so long ago. Apparently, men picked out the colors of houses back then and good old George was a big fan of various shades of green. How funny! They also have the actual bed that he died on in display in the main bedroom!

I love filling up my summer weekends with fun “staycation” types of activities. Got a couple more months to find some new stuff to do! However, next weekend I’ll be heading to ALASKA (!!) for a cruise with — get this — work! That’s right, I’m going on an Alaskan cruise for work and I’m so excited! I’m not one for cruises really but always said I wanted to do one to Alaska. Get ready for some great photos of that!

What kinds of staycation activities do you like to do? DC-ers, would love some suggestions that I can do the remainder of the summer!
