Professional exerciser that I am, you would NEVER guess that this girl has never taken a spin class. They always seemed to boring. Stagnant. Uncomfortable. Ahh, how injuries can change your perspective! After arriving for my 12-mile run Saturday morning at 6am only to hurt my back while reaching to put the GPS away, I was very disappointed. Do you know how disappointing it is to intentionally fuel, sleep and overprepare to get up at 5:15am on a SATURDAY and NOT get to run? Let me tell you — it’s infuriating! So I trudged back to my apartment and plopped down in front of my computer at 6:15am on SATURDAY because I was wide awake and full of fuel that had nowhere to take me.

That being said, this morning, I was off to the gym with no real plan in mind. I’m staying off the running this week in hopes that my back will heal. A spin class was starting just as I arrived and for once it was not full — because most people were up late like cool kids watching the fireworks. I, on the other hand, was in bed by 9:45pm and actually pretty darn happy about it.

So I ventured into class wondering what I was getting myself into. Well, I’ll tell you — it was sweaty. It was sweaty and hard and awesome. I can’t believe I’ve gone my whole life neglecting this world of spin. I mean, I wanted to leave in the middle it was so hard but that tells you it’s good! For the first time, I thought to myself — maybe I could do a sprint triathalon! (Emily and Glenn are both inspiring me too!) Oh I love me so new inspiration! I sweat and pedaled and huffed up mountains and rough terrain until my legs were achy. I will be feelin’ it tomorrow ladies and gentleman! Mostly, I’m glad to find a new routine to mix in with the usual. As injuries always remind us, cross training is truly the key to obtaining the best kind of fitness. And even though I ate junk and drank beer this weekend, I still lost a pound. I’ll take it!
