As much as I would like to create the gourmet meals that scream out to me from Pinterest (follow me there!), I just don't have time -- or the patience.Luckily, there are many ways to make a "gourmet" meal without spending your entire evening cooking dinner! I seriously love all the new easy-to-cook foods available in the refrigerated and frozen sections of the grocery store these days. You can make stuff that tastes like it took hours when it really takes only 30 minutes!I recently tried … [Read more...]
Sunset Hills Vineyard
How excited was I to spend the day with two of my best friends at Sunset Hills Vineyard in Purceville, Virginia on Sunday? Very! My friend Heather was visiting from New York City -- an occasion to celebrate.Heather, Michelle and I were roommates back in 2009-2010 and any time we can all three get together is rare and...awesome! This was also Michelle's first time being able to really hang out with her girlfriends since she had the adorable awesome Austin. It was the perfect day for it -- if not a little hot. Michelle's husband took the baby so we girls could hang out. He was so sweet for calling ahead to the vineyard and actually paying for our drinks! We had a specialty called a "wine-a-rita" -- which I didn't think I would like -- but ended … [Read more...]
Maple Pork Roast with Roasted Sweet Potatoes & Apples
How long has it been since I did a food post? SO long. My sister Shelby (she doesn't blog much but man, you should follow her on Twitter -- she cracks me up.) will tell you because she always tweets me about how she misses the food posts! It's not that I don't cook -- it's that I never cook anything "pretty" enough to photograph! Plus, usually by the time I make dinner or whatever, it's late and we just want to eat and not mess with photos. Food bloggers out there probably have some grumpy husbands that end up eating food half cold from all the photos that have to be taken before it's eaten!Anyway, I made this yesterday and finally got some shots. SO good! This combo of flavors sounded so amazing to me when I saw the recipe in an … [Read more...]
El Centro D.F. Brunch Review
This week I had the chance to try brunch at El Centro D.F. in downtown D.C. I can always count on my friend Ariana to find an awesome new place for brunch! And when it starts with this as an appetizer, you know I am in. Such a sucker for good guac!We met there around 11am on Sunday for their $35 bottomless brunch, which includes all kinds of drinks and unlimited items from the brunch menu. Overwhelming but awesome! We sat on the upstairs deck, which is a really festive theme to it -- and is un-airconditioned so it kind of felt like we were actually in Mexico. Actually, the outdoor bars, the wooden tables and chairs, the sweat, the tequila, the salt -- it was a really neat atmosphere. Even though it was really hot and humid, we decided to … [Read more...]
