Root beer floats take me back, don’t they you? I hadn’t had one in years so when this idea popped into my head for a delicious, “skinny” take on the classic dessert, I was pretty pumped to get going.

As you know, I’m recovering from injury, getting back into the workout game and trying to get back into shape for summer (after this winter, it can’t come soon enough!) I’m totally not the type to sacrifice taste and flavor for a diet though.

Lucky for me, you can make a mean Root Beer Float bursting with flavor on the skinny by using Four Ten Calorie DPSG Root Beer from Wal-Mart, low-fat ice cream, fat-free whipped cream and one of those amazingly sweet maraschino cherries (love!)

CoreFourTen.pngMy first big “summer” event will be my one-year anniversary trip to Charleston, South Carolina. Last year, Rick and I got married on May 15th at a beautiful Sandals resort in Jamaica. Best week of my life! But here we are almost a year later and it’s time to get ready for my trusty old bikini.

I’m not overly concerned with it but…I like to cut calories where I can — especially if the low-calorie versions of something taste just as full in flavor as the high-calorie ones. Such is the case with this here Root Beer float 🙂

I’ve always been a low-calorie soda gal but a lot of them leave something to be desired. I’m really loving the flavor that remains in these 10 little cals! If you are interested in learning more about the four sodas in this line, check out their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter.

Anyway, you know I was sneaking those cherries the whole time I was doing this because they are so freakin’ yummy. The other thing I love about eating floats is I like the way the ice cream gets a little crunch to it once the soda sinks in. I may be weird, I don’t know, it’s just my thing!

So we ate/slurped these floats like it was our job (obviously) and saved some for later too. So good! I’ve never understood why anyway gets anything other than fat free whipped cream as well — tastes just as good!

The good news is that the Four Ten Calorie DPSG sodas are available in Root Beer, 7-Up, Sunkist and Canada Dry. Lucky for you, I have a coupon for ya!

Here’s the deal: Get $0.50 off the purchase of two 2 liter bottles or two 4-pack cans of any of the sodas. Offer available while supplies last, from 3/27-4/17 while supplies last.

So tell me this these floats do NOT look delicious! They do, you know it! So, now I want to hear from you. How do you “skinny” down your favorite desserts? Is there anything you make that tastes just as good as the “real” version? I love tricks and tips!

omg I just had a root beer float like a week ago. I hadn't had one in literally years. I had forgotten how good they are. I didn't use 10, but that's cause it was from a restaurant. I actually drink 10 at home and find it to be pretty damn good for an almost diet drink. You're making me want another one! =p

I don't think I've ever had a root beer float to be honest. But after reading, and seeing this recipe, I must say I'm intrigued. The low calories is a big big plus too by the way, esp seeing that summer is only around the corner.
