Winter workouts. They aren’t the most easy to get motivated for, right? Especially for me right now with this dumb back problem and sciatica issues. Yeah, I’ll fill you in on the latest at another time.
Like most of the nation, it is cold cold cold here in the DC-area. I despise winter but have been keeping warm in my boots and my ultra warm Polar-tec Colombia jacket — obsessed.
But, despite my setbacks, I’m no the kind that can sit around for long. My winter workout this past weekend gave me a good excuse to try out my Under Armour 39 Heart Rate Monitor. I mostly wanted to wear it cause it looks kinda cool 🙂 But of course there are actual, substantial benefits to the darn thing!
Yes, underneath my shirt is the UnderArmour39 heart rate monitor! It was a bit too cold to galavant around in a sports bra! And…let’s be honest, I wouldn’t be caught dead in a sports bra only at the gym, ha.
Anyway, as so many gadgets have come on the market, Under Armour was definitely ready to make their move. According to Engadget, the monitor “combines a small Bluetooth LE-enabled pod with a distinctive chest strap and an app that tracks your level of exertion, awarding you WILLpower points.”
The band is cool-looking and fits tightly across your chest — and is adjustable for all sizes. My husband and I both tried it on and we could fit it snugly. You can definitely workout as normal and forget it’s there tracking the whole way through.
It’s really easy to use. All you need to do is download a free UnderArmour39 app from the app store. Then you sync it with your device and it’s ready to track! The strap is cool because the little device in the middle lights up as it’s working.
It not only tracks heart rate but calories and real-time intensity, giving you a score of 1-10 at the end of your workout. Additionally, it’s water-proof (aka sweat-proof) and you can track things via the internal calendar. Hello convenient!
It costs $99.99 on the Under Armour website and if you are serious about getting fit and tracking it, this is a worthwhile investment. You know what they say, if you don’t have a goal, you’ll never reach it! The only way to truly understand your fitness — and why things work or don’t work — is to track and test.
And, since I was NOT going to let ya’ll see my belly, I will show you the one pic I got wearing the monitor on Instagram:
Oh and in case you were wondering what workout I did, well let me tell you. I put these simple workouts together for others just because I know ti’s hard to decide what to do when you are in the moment. I am constantly checking out my Pinterest board, “Workouts At Home” for ideas. When the treadmill and elliptical get old, you need something new to refresh and these workouts are always a bit different, working new parts of your body and keeping things fresh.
I didn’t do the sit-ups because of my back issue and I did the step-ups very slowly because my left leg is really weak right now due to my sciatica. However, I wanted to present a full plan to you guys!
Do you use any kind of heart rate monitors or devices? Why do you like them? Have you been doing an winter workouts outside?
